ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College softball was swept by Saint Mary's University today.
The Cardinals kept the Scots off the scoreboard in the first game and Macalester lost 4-0.
In the second game, Macalester took a two run lead by the end of the second inning. Junior Julia Carpenter (Stevensville, Mich./Lakeshore) scored the first run for the Scots. Carpenter hit a single down the left field line to get on first base and then advanced to second off a sacrifice bunt by s
ophomore Kennedy Kechely (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) . Then senior
Claire O'Connor (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) singled to left center and sent Carpenter home to make the score 1-0.
Then in the second inning, after hitting a double, junior Kaela Jackson (Seattle, Wash./James A. Garfield) scored the Scots second run off a single from first year
Emily Bergin (Houston, Texas/St. Thomas Episcopal School). However, the Cardinals scored three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth. Macalester was unable to make a comeback in the seventh inning and lost 4-2.
Senior Sophie Migacz (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) threw three strikeouts in seven innings for the first game of the day. Sophomore
Audrey Meade (Cedar Hills, Utah/Pleasant Grove) threw the entire second game.
The Scots play Thursday, Apr. 11, against St. Catherine University at home in St. Paul, Minn.
