CLERMONT, Fla. – The Macalester College softball team split their results today. The Scots beat the Nichols College Bison 7-4. Then later in the day Macalester fell in extra innings to Anderson University, 6-5.

In the win against Nichols, the Scots took a firm 4-0 lead by the fifth inning. In the first, sophomore Kennedy Kechely (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) got on base with a single to third base and then was eventually advanced home off a Bison wild pitch. First year Mackenzie Clarke (Redwood City, Calif./Sequoia) scored the Scots second run in the second inning, advancing on a walk with the bases loaded.

Then in the third, with first year Emily Bergin (Houston, Texas/St. Thomas Episcopal School) on third and senior Claire O'Connor (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) on second, sophomore Kate Lawhead (Battle Ground, Wash./Prairie) hit a two run single to center field to make the score 4-0.

After the Scots scored a run in the top of the fifth, Nichols came back with four runs to make the game close at 5-4. But the Scots secured the lead in the top of the sixth with two runs. The first by senior Sophie Migacz (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) who advanced from a bunt by O'Connor. On third, O'Connor then scored a run thanks to a single by junior Kaela Jackson (Seattle, Wash./James A. Garfield). The Scots won 6-5.

Against Anderson University the Scots found themselves down 2-0 to the Ravens in the bottom of the fifth inning. But Macalester made a 4-0 scoring run in the bottom of the inning.
