CLERMONT, Fla. – The Macalester College softball lost their last games of The Spring Games Invitational today. The Scots fell to St. Norbert College, 8-2, and McDaniel College, 8-5.
The Scots fell behind 6-1 in the second inning to St. Norbert. The Scots run came as first year Mackenzie Clarke (Redwood City, Calif./Sequoia) advanced home from a single by sophomore
Kate Lawhead (Battle Ground, Wash./Prairie) in the bottom of the second. The game remained scoreless until each team scored one run in the sixth. With junior
Kaela Jackson (Seattle, Wash./James A. Garfield) on third, Clarke hit a single to send Jackson home. St. Norbert went on to score one more run and the Scots lost 8-2. On the day, Clarke batted 5-6 with on run and an RBI.
In the afternoon, Macalester found themselves down 5-1 by the end of the third. But the Scots made a comeback and scored four runs in the fifth to find themselves just down 5-4. With sophomore Audrey Meade (Cedar Hills, Utah/Pleasant Grove) on third and junior
Julia Carpenter (Stevensville, Mich./Lakeshore) on second, Jackson hit a single up the middle to send Meade and Carpenter both home. Walked earlier, sophomore
Kennedy Kechely (Rochester, Minn./Mayo), followed by Jackson, scored a run when senior
Claire O'Connor (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) singled to left field.
With the game tied 5-5, McDaniel scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and saw the game out to win 8-5 over the Scots.
The Scots return home on Wednesday, Mar. 27 against Crown College in St, Paul, Minn.
