CLERMONT, Fla. – The Macalester College softball played their first games of their spring trip today in Clermont, Florida. The Scots split their results as they beat Suny Cobleskill, 6-5, and lost to Concordia University- Wisconsin, 4-1.
In the win against Suny Cobleskill, Macalester scored first in the bottom of the first inning. Junior Julia Carpenter (Stevensville, Mich./Lakeshore) bunted to first and then stole second. Sitting at third, Carpenter was sent to home plate by junior
Kaela Jackson (Seattle, Wash./James A. Garfield).
Suny Cobleskill came back with two runs in the top of the second inning and the Scots answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the same inning. Again, Carpenter found herself on second after she bunt to first and stole second plate. Kechely then hit a double and advanced Carpenter to third. Jackson then sent both Carpenter and Kechely to home with a hit to left field. Macalester took over the fourth inning, shutting out Suny Cobleskill and scoring three runs. Carpenter singled first year Mackenzie Clarke (Redwood City, Calif./Sequoia) to home. Then Kechely hit a home run to score and send Carpenter home. The Scots finished out the game and won 6-5.
The second game of the day for Macalester was a close contest against the Falcons of Concordia University- Wisconsin. The Scots scored first as Carpenter scored her fourth run of the day. The game remained 1-0 in favor of Macalester until the Falcons tied it in the bottom of the fifth. Concordia went on to score three runs in the sixth and win the game 4-1.
Over the two games, Migacz threw 11 innings and 13 strikeouts. Carpenter led the Scots with four runs and went 4-7 at bat.
The Scots return Monday, Mar. 18, against Albright College and Manchester University as they continue in their spring trip in Claremont, Fla.
