Men's Tennis: Scots Beat Martin Luther and Wisconsin- Superior

St. Paul, Minn.- The Macalester men's tennis team played two separate matches today, winning both. The Scots played a match at home against Martin Luther College as well as an away match against the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

Against Martin Luther, the Scots won 9-0 against the Knights. The Scots swept the Knights in both singles and doubles. Both senior Peter Willenborg (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith) and Matt Yang (Bethesda, MD./Walt Whitman)  led Macalester with a 6-0, 6-1 win. First year George Steinke (Swathmore, Pa./Strath Haven) won 6-1, 6-1. The Scots also swept the Knights in doubles.

The Scots took on the Yellowjackets of the University of Wisconsin- Superior winning 7-2. Sophomore Sam Hochberger (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) won 6-2, 6-1 against Josiah Borst. And Ben White (Parkersburg, W. Va./Parkersburg South) beat his opponent 6-3, 6-0.

In doubles, Hochberger and first year Jeffrey Jorgensen (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) won their match 8-1. White and first year Karsten Knutsen (Minneapolis, Minn./Riverfield Country Day) also won 8-1. And Isaac Hoehn (Middletown, Md./Middletown) and Brennan Arnold (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) had a closer match winning 8-6.

Macalester returns to play Saturday, Feb. 16, against the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn. at Arrowhead Tennis Center.
