ST. PETER, Minn. – The Macalester College men's basketball team fell to Gustavus, 79-66 in the first MIAC game of the season Saturday afternoon at Gus Young Court. The Scots are now 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the league, while the Gusties improve to 1-2, 1-0 MIAC.
Macalester opened up an 11-5 lead over the first seven minutes of the game, with five different players scoring. Gustavus responded with a 16-6 run to take a 21-17 edge with seven minutes left in the first half. A four-point play by senior guard
Nathan Davies (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) helped the Scots regain the lead, 25-24 with 4:38 on the clock. From that point, the Gusties closed out the half with a 13-4 run to take a 37-29 lead into the halftime break. Macalester shot 38.7 percent from the field in the first half compared to 41.2 percent for Gustavus.
In the second half, the hosts quickly pushed the lead to 16 with a 10-2 run over the first three minutes. The lead grew to as many as 19 points before the Scots battled back. A three-pointer by sophomore guard

Shane Anderson (Fargo, N.D./Davies) sparked a 15-1 run that brought Macalester to within five, 66-61 with 4:38 remaining. But the Gusties scored the next nine points to lead, 75-61, and the Scots never came closer than 11 points the rest of the way. Macalester outscored Gustavus, 40-28 in the paint, but the Gusties hit 12 three-pointers compared to five for the Scots.

Gabriel Ramos (Dorado, Puerto Rico/Tasis Dorado) each scored 14 points, with Ramos adding five assists and four rebounds. Junior forward
Jackson Henningfield (Lake Mary, Fla./Lyman) tallied his second consecutive double-double with 12 points and 11 boards, while Anderson contributed 13 points and five rebounds. Senior
Nikhil Smith (Augusta, Ga./Lakeside) added eight points, two assists and two steals. Logan Rezac led all players with 24 points.
The Scots continue MIAC play on Tuesday, Nov. 26 with a game at Hamline. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in St. Paul.
