ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Macalester women's soccer team dropped their conference matchup with Augsburg on Wednesday night, as the Auggies used an offensive outburst to score five goals at Macalester Stadium. With the win, Augsburg remains undefeated in MIAC play with a 5-0 record and improves to 9-2 on the season. The Scots fall to 1-9-1 overall and 1-4-1 in their conference schedule.
Augsburg struck early, scoring in the second minute of play when senior Ashley St. Aubin fired a shot into the bottom left corner of the net to give the Auggies a 1-0 lead. The Macalester defense held tight for the next 40 minutes, but Augsburg found a way to add another goal before the half, scoring off a corner kick when Jen Masello headed it in.
The Scots were also active offensively in the first half, firing seven shots with five of them on net. Sophomore
Alice Bieda (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) had an early chance to even up the score in the fourth minute, getting an open look, but her shot was saved by the Auggie keeper. Sophomore
Carolyn Eckstein (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor), junior
Georgia Kazemi (Missoula, Mont./Hellgate), and first year
Sarah Hamilton (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) also tested the goalie in the half, but each of their shots were saved.
Augsburg added their third goal less than three minutes into the second half with Megan Howard getting past the Macalester defenders and completing a nice passing play with a goal. The Auggies piled on two more goals in the half to give themselves a comfortable lead with a little under half an hour still to play, eventually going on to win it 5-0.

Kate Lawhead (Battle Ground, Wash./Prairie) tallied six saves in the game and sophomore
Dana Gustafson (Ames, Iowa/Ames) also made a save in the final 27 minutes of the contest.
The Scots will look to bounce back on Saturday, when they take on Concordia at 5:30 p.m. This game will also be senior night for Macalester, where the team will honor seniors
Molly Adams and
Elizabeth Han.
