Women’s Soccer: Macalester Edged by Carleton in OT, 2-1

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team tallied a second-half goal to tie the score, only to fall in overtime, 2-1 at Carleton Sunday afternoon at Bell Field. The Scots drop to 1-8-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the conference, while the Knights improve to 7-2-1, 4-1 MIAC.

Carleton got on the scoreboard when a cross into the penalty area was deflected into the Macalester goal by a defender for an own goal in the 29th minute. Trailing into the second half, the Scots were able to pull even in the 75th minute. Junior Kate Bond (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) received a pass from junior Claire Stafford (Boerne, Texas/Samuel V. Champion), spun and beat Carleton goalkeeper Anna Roethler with a shot to tie the score at 1-1.

The game went into overtime after neither team scored following Bond's goal in regulation. In the ninth minute of the first overtime period, Rainey Tilley scored to give the Knights the win.

Junior Kate Lawhead (Battle Ground, Wash./Prairie) had a standout game in goal, making 10 saves for the Scots. Roethler finished with one save for Carleton.
