Women's Basketball: Scots Fall to Bethel

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.- The Macalester women's basketball team lost to Bethel University today 104-59 on the road. The Scots were led by sophomores Justine Barraza (Burbank, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) with 12 points and  Katherine Podoll (San Geronimo, Calif./Sir Francis Drake) who tallied 10 points.

After an opening jumper by Barraza, the Royals took a fast lead of 19-2 by the middle of the first quarter. The Scots were held to nine points by Bethel and the period ended 27-9.

The game continued in the second with the Scots improving their score by 15 points. But could not find a defensive stop and went into the break down 54-26, ending the quarter with a jumper by junior Holly Hull (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest).

In the second half the Scots were outscored 50-33 despite the Scots doubling their field goal shooting percentage. Defensively, junior Tyana Loiselle (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls) led Macalester with five rebounds and seven steals.

The Scots continue at home on Saturday, Jan. 30, against St.Thomas University at 7:00 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
