ST.PAUL, Minn.- The Macalester women's basketball team lost to the MIAC No.1 team, University of St. Thomas, today. The Scots fell to the Tommies 99-51 in loss at home.
The Scots fell behind quickly 8-0 until junior
Tyana Loiselle (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls) made a jumper to put the Scots on the board. Junior
Caitlyn Burmester (Columbia, MD./Atholton) followed by tallying a three-pointer in the final two minutes of the quarter. The Scots ended the period with a layup by sophomore
Kayla Togneri (Ventura, Calif./Ventura), down 18-9. Togneri would go on to have a career-high 20 points, as well as eight rebounds and two steals.
In the second quarter, the Tommies continued to dominate and outscored the Scots 25-14. Despite Macalester shooting 66.7 percent from the line, the Scots went into half down 43-23.
Macalester started the third quarter off with a three-pointer from sophomore Justine Barraza (Burbank, Calif./Harvard-Westlake), Macalester's season top-scorer. But the Scots were unable to stop the Tommie offense as they shot their best quarter of the night from the field at just under 80 percent.
In the fourth, Togneri scored five of her twenty points and fought for two rebounds. The Tommies continued to score and ended the game up 99-51.
The Scots go on the road Saturday, Feb. 2, against the College of Saint Benedict at 1:00 p.m. in St. Joseph, Minn.
