ST. PAUL, Minn.- The Macalester College women's soccer team lost to Wartburg College today 3-0 in the Scots home opener of the season.
The Scots kept it very close with the Knights for almost the entire first half until the Knights moved ahead in the 45th minute. Wide open Morgan Finch slotted the ball past keeper Anya Lindell Paulson's (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park) right low post. Within seconds the halftime whistle blew and the Scots went into the locker room down 1-0.
The Scots changed keeper at half with sophomore Kayla Togneri (Ventura, Calif./Ventura). The second half action began quick as Wartburg attacked the Scots in the 46th minute leading to Togneri's clearance being intercepted and slid past her by Alyssa Drewelow after a scrum at the six-yard line.
Down 2-0, junior Elizabeth Han (Seattle, Wash./Nathan Hale) led the Scots offensive attack with three shots on goal.
But the Knights sealed the win in the 61st minute as Nicole Adair took a corner kick that was headed over top of Togneri and the Scots defense by Molly Close for the third game of the match.
The Scots will return Wednesday., Sept. 5, away to the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire at 4:00 p.m. in Eau Claire, Wis.
