ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's basketball team lost a MIAC game to Gustavus Adolphus, 103-59 Wednesday evening at Gus Young Court. The Scots fall to 2-20 overall and 1-16 in the conference, while the Gusties improve to 12-11, 10-8 MIAC.
Gustavus took control of the game from the start, opening the first half with an 11-0 run en route to a 23-4 lead with 12:21 on the clock. The Gusties ended up holding Macalester to 28.6 percent shooting from the field and forcing 17 turnovers in the first half to take a 56-13 advantage at the break.
In the second half the Scots found their shooting touch, hitting 57.1 percent from the floor while making 4-of-8 from three-point range. First year forward
Jackson Henningfield (Lake Mary, Fla./Lyman) scored 16 of his team-best 18 points after halftime, making both of his three-point attempts. He finished the game shooting 6-of-12 from the field and grabbing six rebounds. Sophomore forward
Ian Joseph (Alpharetta, Ga./Johns Creek) matched his career best with 12 points to go with three steals, while senior guard
Brett Olson (New London, Minn./New London-Spicer) added eight points.
Riley Sharbono led Gustavus with 19 points and four assists.
Macalester returns home to face Saint Mary's University on Saturday, Feb. 10. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in the Leonard Center. The Scots will honor Olson, their lone senior, prior to the game.
