ST.PAUL, Minn.- The Macalester women's basketball team lost a tough battle at home tonight against Hamline University. The Scots fell to the Pipers 58-45 in their last game before holiday break.

The Pipers then took a 9-2 lead until sophomore Justine Barraza (Burbank, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) tallied a three-point play after hitting her layup, being fouled and making the following free throw. But Hamline found their offensive stride and ended the quarter up 14-6.

In the second, the Scots continued to struggle from the field until Barraza sunk a three pointer which was followed by another three pointer by fellow sophomore Katherine Podoll (San Geronimo, Calif./Sir Francis Drake), assisted by Barraza. With the score at 17-12, first year Celine Sabbagh (Eau Claire, Wis./Regis) brought the Scots with in one as she tallied a free throw and a shot from beyond the arc.

Hull went on the lead the Scots in scoring with 11 points. She also tallied three assists and three steals.

Out of the break, the Scots saw Hamline double their lead less than three minutes into the third quarter and hold it through the fourth. Down by as much as 17, Macalester cut the lead to twelve points with two and a half minutes left in the game. The lead was then only nine when junior Caitlyn Burmester (Columbia, MD./Atholton) scored a three pointer. But the Scots were not able to complete the come back and the Pipers went on to win 58-45.
