Men’s Basketball: Macalester Falls to St. Olaf at Home

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's basketball team lost a MIAC home game to St. Olaf, 79-54 Saturday afternoon in the Leonard Center. The Scots are now 2-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play, while the Oles improve to 3-4, 2-0 MIAC.

Early in the first half, St. Olaf scored 14 straight points to take the upper hand, 23-9. A pair of free throws by senior forward Wyatt Ferm (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) and a three-pointer from first year guard Eric Sathy (Cupertino, Calif./Homestead) ended the run, but the Oles pushed the lead to 17, 33-16 at the 3:33 mark. The Scots responded with a 10-0 run, including threes from Sathy and sophomore center Jackson Henningfield (Lake Mary, Fla./Lyman), that cut the deficit to 35-26 at the break.

With St. Olaf leading 49-38, Henningfield hit a layup and another three-pointer in a 7-2 run that brought the Scots to within six, 51-45 with 11 minutes to play. The score was 58-50 following a conventional three-point play by Ferm at the 7:27 mark when the Oles tallied 13 straight points to make the score 71-50 and put the game out of reach. St. Olaf shot 54.8 percent from the field in the second half compared to 39.1 percent for Macalester.

Henningfield was 4-of-8 from beyond the arc to finish with a team-leading 20 points. Ferm registered his fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 15 rebounds, while Sathy ended up with nine points. St. Olaf's Dom Bledsoe led all players with 24 points.

The Scots return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 5 with another home game against Gustavus Adolphus. The MIAC contest is set to start at 7:00 p.m. in the Leonard Center.
