ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's basketball team fell to Gustavus Adolphus, 87-50 in a MIAC game Wednesday night in the Leonard Center. The Scots drop to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference with the loss, while the Gusties improve to 3-4, 1-2 MIAC.

Macalester trailed 28-16 with nine minutes left in the first half before reeling off a 16-6 run sparked by seven points from sophomore guard Gabriel Ramos (Dorado, Puerto Rico/Tasis Dorado) and six from junior guard Nikhil Smith (Augusta, Ga./Lakeside) that made the score 34-32 with 2:12 on the clock. A 9-5 run by Gustavus to close out the half made the halftime score 43-37 in favor of the visitors.

The Gusties began the second half on fire, scoring the first 10 points to lead 53-37. Three-pointers from senior forward Wyatt Ferm (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) and first year guard Eric Sathy (Cupertino, Calif./Homestead) helped to cut the deficit to 55-43, but Gustavus put the game out of reach with an 18-4 run for a 73-47 advantage with seven minutes to play. The Gusties shot 59.4 percent from the field for the game while holding the Scots to 33.3 percent.

Ramos was the lone Scot to score in double figures with 11 points. He also grabbed a team-best seven rebounds and had two blocks. Smith, Sathy and sophomore center Jackson Henningfield (Lake Mary, Fla./Lyman) each scored eight points. Nolan Malo led all players with 23 points, as Gustavus head coach Mark Hanson registered his 500th career win.

Macalester hosts Bethel University on Saturday, Dec. 8 in another MIAC game. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in the Leonard Center.
