Women's Soccer: Scots Topple Saint Mary's 3-1

ST. PAUL, Minn.- The Macalester College women's soccer team beat Saint Mary's University today, 3-1. This is the Scots first MIAC win with two more games left to play in the season.

Macalester went down quickly as the Cardinals slotted a goal past sophomore keeper Kayla Togneri (Ventura, Calif./Ventura) with just four minutes played in the first half. The game remained open for both teams and the Scots tied the game in the 34th minute of the game.

Sophomore Georgia Kazemi (Missoula, Mont./Hellgate) took a shot around the 18-yard line only to see it blocked. Kazemi's deflected shot bounced in the Cardinal's box and landed at the feet of junior Molly Adams (Concord, Mass./Concordia Carlisle) who slotted the ball low into the net for her first goal of the season.

Then with 11 minutes left in the half, Adams tallied her second goal of the game and season as she scored a rebounding ball from first year Carolyn Eckstein (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor). Adams's goal sent the Scots up 2-1 into halftime.

Macalester started off the second half with another goal with three minutes into the half. First year Alice Bieda (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) was dragged down in the box by a Cardinals defender, forcing the referee to call for a penalty kick. Bieda stepped up to the spot and successfully scored the penalty shot, her second of the year.

The Scots saw the game out and won 3-0, breaking their season winless conference streak.

The Scots return to the road to play their last road game against the College of Saint Benedict on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 3:30 p.m. in St. Joseph, Minn.
