MOORHEAD, Minn.- The Macalester College women's basketball team lost to Concordia Moorhead, 58-46. The Scots are now 1-1 against the Cobbers this season and 7-12.
The Scots fell behind early in the first quarter Concordia went on a 9-0 run in the first four minutes until senior guard
Leah Gray (San Rafael, Calif./Branson School) scored a three-point shot to get Macalester on the board. Gray was tied for lead scorer on the night with 11 points and one block. Macalester ended the first quarter down ten points, 21-10, with senior guard
Vivi Gregorich (Boulder, Colo./Boulder) scoring a three-pointer in the last seconds. Gregorich ended the night with seven points and two steals.
Macalester was unable to keep the deficit below double digits in the second quarter. This was due impart to the Scots only shooting 31 percent from the field on the game. The Scots ended the second quarter down 17, 36-19, but were able to stay close to the Cobbers by shooting 62 percent at the line.
Concordia continued to be offensively dominating in the third quarter. The Scots found themselves down 25 points at the end of the quarter and gave the ball up seven times.
In the fourth quarter, the Scots only allowed the Cobbers to score six points. Macalester went on a 13-point run to close the gap to 12. However, the clock was against the Scots despite protecting the ball and stopping Concordia from scoring. The game ended, 58-46, on a layup by sophomore guard
Holly Hull (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) who scored nine points on the game.
Senior center
Regan Fruh (Helena, Mont./ Helena) scored 11 points and is now only 20 points from moving up to sixth on Macalester women's all-time career points records.
The Scots return to action home against the University of St. Thomas on Wed., Jan. 31 in Saint Paul, Minn. at 7:00 p.m.
