SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Macalester College men's soccer team lost to UW-Superior, 2-1 Friday afternoon at NBC Sports Complex. The defeat drops the Scots to 1-2 on the season, while the Yellowjackets improve to 3-1.
The game remained scoreless until the 72nd minute, when UW-Superior broke through with a goal by Mualigbe Keita. Blake Doyea gave the Yellowjackets an insurance goal in the 87th minute and they would need it. Macalester found the net two minutes later, as sophomore defender
Max Kent (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Louis Park) headed home a cross from senior midfielder
Jake Burke (Dublin, Ireland/Shattuck-St. Mary's) in the 89th minute. It was the first collegiate goal for Kent, who had four assists in 2016.
The Scots out-shot UW-Superior, 21-15 and put nine shots on goal. First year goalkeeper
Cade Fink (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) registered four saves for Macalester, while Josh Herd made eight saves for the Yellowjackets.
The Scots return home on Sunday, Sept. 10 for a non-conference game with UW-Whitewater. The game starts at 1:00 p.m. at Macalester Stadium.
