ST. PAUL, Minn. – A goal by junior midfielder
Seth Kofman (Moraga, Calif./Campolindo) in the 68th minute proved to be the difference, as the Macalester College men's soccer team started the 2017 campaign with a 2-0 victory over visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Friday evening at Macalester Stadium.
The Scots opened the scoring in the ninth minute, when senior midfielder
Jake Burke (Dublin, Ireland/Shattuck-St. Mary's) received a pass from senior forward
Danny Baumann (Waterford, Wis./Muskego) and scored from 12 yards out. The Stags pulled even on a goal by Justin Gadalla in the 39th minute.
The game remained tied until midway through the second half, when sophomore midfielder
Chris Bajek (Fitchburg, Wis./Madison West) found Kofman near the goal. Kofman's shot beat Stags' goalkeeper Daniel Cui for the go-ahead goal, and his first goal as a collegian.
Macalester held a 12-6 advantage in shots, as junior goalkeeper
Colton Wenig (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) made four saves in his first collegiate start. Cui also finished with four saves for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
The Scots host St. Norbert College on Sunday, Sept. 3 in another non-conference match. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at Macalester Stadium.
