ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The Macalester College softball team lost a pair of games to the College of Saint Benedict, 9-1 in six innings and 7-0 in a MIAC twinbill Saturday afternoon at the CSB Softball Field. The Scots drop to 18-18 overall and 6-12 in the conference with the losses, while the Blazers (26-8) remain atop the MIAC with a 15-3 record.

Saint Benedict scored four runs in the third inning and five more in the sixth inning of Game 1. Macalester's lone run came in the top of the sixth, when sophomore Samantha Barkan (New York, N.Y./Friends Seminary) doubled home sophomore Claire O'Connor (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont). Barkan, O'Connor, juniors Morghan Bean (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) and G.G. Gunther (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell), sophomore Makaya Resner (Missoula, Mont./Loyola Sacred Heart) and first year Kaela Jackson (Seattle, Wash./James A. Garfield) had the hits for the Scots.

In the second game, Macalester struggled to produce any offense, advancing runners to scoring position in two of the seven innings. The Blazers scored single runs in the first and second innings, two runs in the third and three more in the fourth in the 7-0 victory. Gunther had two hits for the Scots, while Jackson, senior Nikki Caicedo (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) and first year Julia Carpenter (Stevensville, Mich./Lakeshore) had the other Macalester hits.

The Scots take on St. Catherine University in another MIAC doubleheader on Sunday, Apr. 23. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
