Softball: Macalester Loses to Millikin, Ripon at Spring Games

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Macalester College softball team dropped a pair of games Monday morning at THE Spring Games, held at Hancock Park. The Scots, who lost to Millikin, 4-0 and Ripon, 5-0, are now 5-3 on the season.

In the first game, Millikin scored single runs in both the first and second innings, and pushed two runs across in the third for a 4-0 lead. Macalester managed just two hits off Millikin pitcher Gracie Brookens, who went the distance with four strikeouts and no walks. Sophomores Claire O'Connor (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) and Sophie Migacz (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) had the Scots' hits, but neither runner advanced beyond first base. Migacz allowed four runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings of work for Macalester.

The offense ran into another strong pitcher in Game 2, with Ripon's Lexi Reetz limiting the Scots to two hits while fanning five and walking three in a complete-game effort. Macalester advanced runners to scoring position in four innings but was unable to get the key hit. Junior G.G. Gunther (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell) plated sophomore) and first year Julia Carpenter (Stevensville, Mich./Lakeshore) had the hits for the Scots.

Ripon did most of the damage in the third inning, with four runs on two hits and two Scots' errors.

Macalester plays Norwich University at 1:00 p.m. and Trinity College at 3:30 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday, Mar. 14 at THE Spring Games. Both contests will be played at Sleepy Hollow in Leesburg, Fla.
