ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's basketball team ended a seven-game losing streak with a 60-53 triumph over St. Olaf College in a MIAC game Saturday afternoon in the Leonard Center. The Scots improve to 10-13 overall, including 4-12 in conference play, while the Oles fall to 7-16, 3-13 MIAC.
St. Olaf held the upper hand in the first quarter, leading 15-8 after the first 10 minutes. The lead grew to 20-11 with 7:39 left in the half before Macalester scored the next 13 points to grab a 24-20 edge with 4:20 left. Senior guard
Lauren Clamage (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) and junior guard
Vivi Gregorich (Boulder, Colo./Boulder) each hit three-pointers, while junior center
Regan Fruh (Helena, Mont./Helena) scored five points in the run.
Baskets by junior forward
Leah Gray (San Rafael, Calif./Branson School) and Clamage in the final minute put the Scots on top, 34-27 at the half. Macalester held St. Olaf to 29.4 percent shooting from the field in the first half while shooting 44.4 percent.
After the Oles cut the deficit to 41-28 following a three from Ella Skrien, the Scots responded with an 8-2 run buoyed by three-pointers from Clamage and Gray for a 49-40 advantage. St. Olaf scored the final four points of the quarter to make the score 49-44 Macalester.
In the fourth quarter, the Oles used five points from Makenna Ash to pull to within two, 51-49. But Clamage's fourth three of the day sparked a 7-2 run that gave the Scots a 58-51 lead with 2:28 remaining. St. Olaf never came closer than five points the rest of the way, as Macalester clinched the season sweep of the Oles.
Clamage tallied a game-high 24 points while making 4-of-10 from beyond the arc. Fruh registered 17 points, six rebounds and two blocks, while first year guard
Tyana Loiselle (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls) dished out five assists and had two steals. Ash led St. Olaf with 13 points.

Macalester hosts Augsburg College on Wednesday, Feb. 15 in the final home game of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Leonard Center.
