Women’s Basketball: Macalester Falls at St. Kate’s

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's basketball team played its fifth straight road game, losing at St. Catherine University, 82-48 Wednesday night at the Butler Center. The Scots drop to 9-11 overall and 3-10 in league play, while the Wildcats improve to 13-7, 7-6 MIAC.

St. Kate's set the tone early, opening the game with a 13-2 run en route to a 23-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter. A three-pointer by senior guard Lauren Clamage (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) to start the second quarter cut the deficit to 11. But the Wildcats increased their lead to as many as 21 points before a three from junior guard Vivi Gregorich (Boulder, Colo./Boulder) and a basket by junior center Regan Fruh (Helena, Mont./Helena) made the score 47-31 at the half. St. Catherine shot 60.6 percent from the field in the first half compared to 46.4 percent for Macalester.

The hosts never let the Scots back in the game, expanding the lead to as many as 27 points in the third quarter and 38 points in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats held Macalester to just 26.7 percent shooting from the field after halftime and registered a 42-30 advantage in rebounding for the game.

Fruh was the lone bright spot for the Scots, making 8-of-12 from the field to score a team-leading 17 points. She also grabbed six rebounds, while Gregorich delivered four assists.

The Scots return home for the first time since Jan. 14 to host Concordia College on Saturday, Feb. 4. The MIAC match-up starts at 1:00 p.m. in the Leonard Center.
