ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team played the College of Saint Benedict to a scoreless tie in a MIAC game Wednesday evening at Macalester Stadium. The draw marked the final home game of the season for the Scots, who are now 6-6-4 overall and 3-4-3 in conference play. The Blazers are now 9-2-3, 5-2-3 MIAC.
Macalester generated several good scoring chances but were unable to break through. In the 61st minute, sophomore midfielder
Elizabeth Han (Seattle, Wash./Nathan Hale) hit the crossbar on a corner kick. With less than a minute to play in regulation, first year forward
Kate Bond (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) blasted a shot from 25 yards out that hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced near the goal line. The officials ruled that it did not cross the goal line, and the game went to overtime.
Bond and senior midfielder
Kelsey Porter (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville) each put two shots on goal, as both teams took 13 shots in the game. Senior goalkeeper
Rachel Wilson-King (Tucson, Ariz./St. Gregory College Prep School) made five saves for the Scots, while Kendall Koenen recorded six saves for Saint Benedict.
Before the game, the Scots honored their seven seniors who were playing in their final home game.
Macalester concludes the regular season at Gustavus on Saturday, Oct. 28. Game time on Saturday is 3:30 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
