DULUTH, Minn. – Down two goals, the Macalester College women's soccer team fought back to earn a 2-2 draw with the College of St. Scholastica in a non-conference match Monday afternoon at Saints Field. The Scots are now 5-5-3 overall, while the Saints are 8-5-3.
St. Scholastica scored goals in the 13th and 18th minutes to take an early 2-0 lead. Macalester regrouped at the half, and took advantage of a break in the 59th minute. The Saints were called for a foul in their own penalty area, and senior defender
Clara Webby (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) converted the ensuing penalty kick to make the score 2-1.
Exactly 11 minutes later, junior forward
Jaime Hasama (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Peninsula) sent a long ball towards the goal from about 45 yards out. Webby ran onto the ball and headed it over St. Scholastica goalkeeper Roni Rudolph to tie the game at 2-2. The Scots put four shots on goal during the remainder of regulation and the two overtime periods, but the game ended in a 2-2 draw after 110 minutes. The comeback effort marked the first time this season that the Scots have scored two goals in a game.
Macalester outshot the Saints, 17-15, with senior goalkeeper
Emma Toomer (Leesburg, Va./Loudon County) making eight saves. Rudolph also registered eight saves for St. Scholastica.
The Scots conclude their non-conference schedule with a game at UW-Stout on Wednesday, Oct. 18, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Menomenie, Wis.
