Women’s Basketball: Macalester Loses at Bethel in MIAC Match-Up

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Macalester College women's basketball team dropped a MIAC game to Bethel University, 73-45 Saturday afternoon at the Robertson Center Gym. The Scots are now 9-10 overall and 3-9 in the conference, while the Royals improve to 15-4, 10-2 MIAC.

Junior center Regan Fruh (Helena, Mont./Helena) and first year guard Holly Hull (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley NW) each scored six points in the first quarter as Macalester trailed 18-14 at the end of one quarter. Bethel took control in the second quarter, using a 14-4 run to lead 32-18 with 3:08 on the clock. Baskets by Hull, first year guard Caitlyn Burmester (Columbia, Md./Atholton) and senior forward Park Masterson (Poway, Calif./Poway) brought the Scots to within 10, 34-24, at the half.

Early in the third quarter, the Royals scored 11 consecutive points to expand the lead to 49-28 midway through the quarter. Layups from Fruh and first year guard Tyana Loiselle (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls) cut the deficit to 17, but that's as close as Macalester would get the rest of the way. Bethel held the Scots to 27.0 percent shooting from the field while controlling the boards with a 49-37 rebounding advantage.

Fruh ended up with a team-best 14 points to go with five rebounds, while Hull tallied 10 points and six boards. Taite Anderson scored 18 points and was one of four Royals to score in double-figures.

Macalester plays its fifth consecutive MIAC game on the road on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at St. Catherine University. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
