NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team closed out play at the St. Olaf Tournament with a pair of losses Saturday. The Scots, who fell to Martin Luther College, 3-1 and to Buena Vista University, 3-0, now have a 1-3 record on the season.
Against the Knights, Macalester won the first set, 25-19, hitting .385 compared to .152 for Martin Luther. Senior outside hitter
Brooke Hunter (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater), junior outside hitter
India Medaris (Napa, Calif./Justin Siena) and first year right side
Grace Brickner (Bronx, N.Y./Fieldston) each had four kills in the set. But the Knights won the final three sets, 25-20, 25-23 and 25-20 to close out the win. Medaris finished with 16 kills, Hunter had 14 kills and junior outside hitter
Clara Baumann (Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) added nine kills. Hunter (19 assists) and sophomore
Sofi Ascencio (San Francisco, Calif./Holy Names) (17 assists) split the setting duties, while senior defensive specialist
Hoai-Nam Bui (McLean, Va./Langley) recorded 23 digs.
In the second match of the day, the Scots lost to Buena Vista, 25-16, 25-22, 25-20. Baumann had six kills and 10 digs, and Bui finished with 10 digs.
Macalester plays its first home match of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 6 against North Central University. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in the Leonard Center.
