ST. PAUL, Minn. – The seventh-ranked Macalester College men's soccer team remained unbeaten in the MIAC with a 2-0 victory over Hamline Friday night at Macalester Stadium. The Scots are now 7-0-1 overall, including a 3-0 mark in league play, while the Pipers fall to 7-2, 1-1 MIAC.
The two teams battled through the first half and into the second with neither team gaining the upper hand. Then in the 68th minute, a corner kick by sophomore midfielder
Seth Kofman (Moraga, Calif./Campolindo) found junior midfielder
Zach Moore (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) near the far post. Moore put the ball past Hamline goalkeeper Dean Isaacson for a 1-0 lead. Junior forward
Danny Baumann (Waterford, Wis./Muskego) added an insurance goal in the 89th minute with a remarkable individual effort. Baumann received the ball near the top of the penalty area and held off multiple defenders before blasting a shot into the left side of the goal from 20 yards out.
The Scots' defense kept pressure off of senior goalkeeper
Zeke Vainer (Melrose, Mass./Melrose), who was not required to make a save. Isaacson made one save for Hamline, who were outshot, 7-2 in the game.
The Scots host St. Scholastica on Sunday, Sept. 25 in a non-conference game at Macalester Stadium. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
