STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Macalester College volleyball team finished the UW-Steven Point Tournament with a record of 2-2 after falling to Aurora University and defeating Ripon Saturday afternoon. The Scots are now 4-5 overall.
In the day's first match, Aurora swept Macalester, 25-18, 25-15, 25-16. Junior outside hitter
India Medaris (Napa, Calif./Justin Siena) led the Scots with 11 kills, while junior outside hitter
Clara Baumann (Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) added eight kills and nine digs. Senior libero
Hoai-Nam Bui (McLean, Va./Langley) paced the defense with 14 digs.
Against Ripon, Macalester went the distance, taking the second, third and fifth sets to win 15-25, 25-20, 25-22, 17-25, 15-8. Baumann and Medaris each had three kills in the final set, as the Scots scored the first five points en route to victory. Baumann finished with 18 kills to go with 16 digs for her third double-double of the season. Medaris added 12 kills and 12 digs, while senior
Brooke Hunter (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) delivered 39 assists. Defensively, senior middle hitter
Meghan Klapper (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) had four blocks, and Bui racked up 26 digs. Hunter was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
Macalester begins MIAC play on Thursday, Sept. 15 with a conference match against Concordia College. The first serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Leonard Center.
