LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The 20th-ranked Macalester College men's soccer team stayed hot with a 2-0 victory over Lawrence University at the ACM Soccer Showcase Saturday morning at Lake Forest College. The win keeps the Scots unbeaten at 4-0-1 on the season, while the Vikings drop to 0-3.
Macalester scored the only goal they would need in the 16th minute, when junior midfielder
Charlie Spurr (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) found the net off assists from first year defender
Max Kent (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Louis Park) and junior midfielder
Jake Burke (Dublin, Ireland/Shattuck-St. Mary's). Spurr then assisted on an insurance goal by junior forward
Ionatan Kuperwajs (Redmond, Wash./Woodinville) in the 88th minute.
The Scots controlled play and held an 11-4 advantage on shots. Senior goalkeeper
Zeke Vainer (Melrose, Mass./Melrose) was required to make one save for his third shutout of the season, while Joe Krivit registered six saves in goal for Lawrence.
Macalester begins its MIAC schedule on Wednesday, Sept. 14 with a match at Gustavus Adolphus. The game is set to start at 4:00 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
