ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College opened the 2016 campaign with a 0-0 tie with Wartburg College in a non-conference game Thursday night at Macalester Stadium. The draw marked the first game of the season for both teams.
Wartburg, ranked 18th in the NSCAA Division III Preseason Poll, played a strong first half, holding a 7-1 edge in shots. The Scots came back in the second half with eight shots after halftime, but neither team could find the net after 90 minutes. Macalester's best chance in overtime came in the 100th minute, when a header by sophomore defender

The Scots played the final 33 minutes with 10 players after a red card was issued to junior goalkeeper
Rachel Wilson-King (Tucson, Ariz./St. Gregory) in the 77th minute as the result of a collision near the top of Macalester's penalty area. Junior goalkeeper
Emma Toomer (Leesburg, Va./Loudon County) entered the game and made four saves to keep Wartburg off the scoreboard. Wilson King also had four saves, while Crow made five saves.
Macalester plays a non-conference game at UW-Stevens Point on Saturday, Sept. 3, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
