STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Macalester College women's soccer team earned its first victory of the 2016 season with a 1-0 win at UW-Stevens Point Saturday afternoon at the Pointer Soccer Bowl. The Scots improve to 1-0-1 on the year, while the Pointers fall to 0-2.
The only goal in the contest came in the 29th minute. Junior
Bekka Ord (Juneau, Alaska/Juneau-Douglas) sent a long cross towards the far post, where two players collided. The ball deflected off the defender on the play and into the goal for an own goal.
Macalester dominated but did not score again in the game despite taking 30 shots and putting 22 on goal. UWSP goalkeeper Olivia Mecham recorded 19 saves, with two Scots' shots being cleared off the line by defenders. Junior goalkeeper
Emma Toomer (Leesburg, Va./Loudon County) made two saves for the shutout.
Macalester returns to action next weekend for the ACM Tournament, hosted by Lake Forest College. The Scots take on the host Foresters on Friday, Sept. 9 at 4:00 p.m. before facing Lawrence on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
