ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Macalester College softball team hosted Carleton College in a MIAC doubleheader at the Macalester Softball Complex Saturday afternoon. The Scots put together 11 hits in an 8-5 game one victory. They fell in a five-inning, 9-0 loss in game two to move to 10-18 overall and 3-7 in conference play. Carleton earned its first conference win of the year, advancing to 7-17 this season, 1-7 in the MIAC.
Game One: Macalester 8, Carleton 5
Macalester displayed consistent offense throughout the game as they scored at least one run in each inning at the plate. The Scots collected 11 hits to Carleton's eight and forced the Knights into four defensive errors.
Senior
Abby Cox (Fort Worth, Texas / Country Day) was honored prior to the first pitch as the lone senior on the Macalester team this season. She led the way at the plate, going two for three with an RBI.
Katja McKiernan (Los Angeles, Calif. / Marymount) and
Claire O'Connor (Piedmont, Calif. / Piedmont) also produced multiple hit games. McKiernan had two hits and O'Connor went three for four with two RBI's.
Morghan Bean (Muscatine, Iowa / Muscatine) connected on her fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the third.
First year
Sophie Migacz (McHenry, Ill. / McHenry West) picked up her seventh win this year, pitching the complete seven innings to allow eight hits and three earned runs. Migacz struck ou three.
Game Two: Carleton 9, Macalester 0 (Five Innings)
The Knights got off to an aggressive start in game two, scoring nine runs in the first three innings. Macalester was unable to get the momentum back, falling in an early five-inning run rule decision.
Carleton put together four hits and capitalized on six walked batters and four players hit by pitches. The Scots collected just two hits in the game.
Logan Tootle (Kansas City, Mo. / Lee's Summit North) started in the circle for Macalester and pitched one inning before being relieved by Bean. Bean threw two innings and was replaced by Migacz who finished out the game. Tootle was credited with the loss, her record moving to 2-6 this year.
Cox collected both hits for the Scots in the game and finished her senior day performance going four for five at the plate.
Macalester will return to action on Sunday, Apr. 17 when they travel to Winona, Minn. to take on Saint Mary's University. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
