MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – A goal by senior midfielder
Rae Hohle (Aurora, Ill./Illinois Math & Science) gave the Macalester College women's soccer team a 1-0 win over Augsburg College in a MIAC contest Saturday night at Edor Nelson Field. The road victory allows the Scots to improve to 9-3-3 overall and 4-3-2 in conference play, while the Auggies drop to 13-3, 7-2 MIAC.
Hohle broke a scoreless tie in the 73rd minute, when she collected a loose ball off a deflection and blasted a shot from 30 yards out over goalkeeper Emily Chapman and under the crossbar. The Scots' defense remained solid throughout the game despite being outshot, 14-7 for the game. With the win, Macalester moves into fifth place in the MIAC standings with two games to play. The top six teams qualify for the MIAC playoffs.
Junior goalkeeper
Emma Toomer (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) registered four saves in goal for her fourth shutout of the season. Chapman played the second half for Augsburg and made two saves, while Marissa Guillou started and recorded one save in the first half.
Macalester continues MIAC play with a game at Saint Benedict on Wednesday, Oct. 26, beginning at 3:30 p.m. in St. Joseph, Minn.
