Women’s Soccer: Macalester Tops St. Scholastica, 3-0

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Junior forward Jaime Hasama (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Peninsula) had two assists to help the Macalester College women's soccer team defeat St. Scholastica, 3-0 in a non-league game Tuesday evening at Macalester Stadium. The win is the third in a row for the Scots, who improve to 8-3-3 overall on the season. The Saints drop to 7-8-2.

Macalester struck in the 19th minute, when sophomore defender Mia Stripp (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) knocked in Hasama's corner kick for a 1-0 lead. St. Scholastica nearly tied the game early in the second half, as Rachel Dixon broke in behind the defense and fired a shot off the post in the 56th minute. Just under 10 minutes later, a long pass by Hasama sent senior forward Kara Komoto (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake) in alone on Saints' goalkeeper Roni Rudolph. Rudolph got a piece of Komoto's shot, but the ball bounced off the post and into the goal for a 2-0 advantage. Komoto, the reigning MIAC Athlete of the Week, scored for the third consecutive game.

In the 84th minute, junior forward Bekka Ord (Juneau, Alaska/Juneau-Douglas) received a pass up the middle from first year midfielder Molly Adams (Concord, Mass./Concord Carlisle) and blasted a shot past Rudolph for the game's final goal. The Scots outshot St. Scholastica, 14-5 and held possession for the majority of the game.

Junior goalkeeper Emma Toomer (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) played all but three minutes in goal and made one save. Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Stromsta (Chicago, Ill./Northside College Prep) closed out the game. The Scots haven't conceded a goal for over 263 consecutive minutes. Rudolph ended up with four saves for the Saints.

Macalester resumes the MIAC schedule with a game at Augsburg on Saturday, Oct. 22. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. in Minneapolis, Minn.
