ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team participated in the St. Kate's Volleyball Quadrangular on Saturday. The Scots, who lost to UW-Stout in three sets and to Loras in four sets, are now 8-14 overall.
Against UW-Stout, the Scots registered 39 kills compared to 34 for the Blue Devils, but Macalester fell 25-23, 25-18, 25-22. Junior outside hitter
Clara Baumann (Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) led the Scots with 11 kills and 18 digs, while junior outside hitter
India Medaris (Napa, Calif./Justin Siena) added nine kills. Senior
Brooke Hunter (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) was the primary setter and delivered 28 assists to go with five kills and nine digs. First year libero
Alexis Foret (Copperas Cove, Texas/Copperas) contributed on defense with 14 digs.
In the day's second match, Loras won the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-23 before the Scots came back to win the third set, 25-26. Baumann delivered three kills and six digs in the set. Macalester battled back in the fourth set to take a 20-19 lead after Hunter registered a kill and back-to-back aces. The set was tied at 22-22 when Loras rallied for three straight points to take the set and the match.
Baumann contributed 11 kills and 17 digs, with senior middle hitters
Caitlyn O'Neil (Carmichael, Calif./Rio Americano) and
Meghan Klapper (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) tallying eight kills apiece. Hunter recorded 28 assists, with Foret racking up 22 digs.
The Scots head back to St. Kate's for a MIAC match on Wednesday, Oct. 19, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in St. Paul.
