ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team won another MIAC game, defeating Carleton College, 2-0 Friday night at Macalester Stadium. The Scots, who beat Saint Mary's earlier this week, improve to 7-3-3 overall and 3-3-2 in conference play. The Knights fall to 2-10-2, 2-5-1 MIAC.
Macalester got on the scoreboard in the 31st minute, when sophomore
Mia Stripp (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) sent a pass through to senior forward
Kara Komoto (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake). Komoto dribbled in behind her defender and scored from 15 yards out for a 1-0 lead. The goal was the second in as many games for Komoto, who scored the game's only goal against Saint Mary's on Tuesday.
The Scots maintained control, creating several scoring chances while keeping Carleton from building any momentum. Then in the 82nd minute, junior forward
Jaime Hasama (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Peninsula) deflected in a free kick from senior midfielder
Rae Hohle (Aurora, Ill./Illinois Math & Science) to put the game out of reach.
Macalester registered a 13-4 advantage in shots, requiring Carleton goalkeeper Elaine Sundberg to make three saves. Junior goalkeeper
Emma Toomer (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) had two saves for her second consecutive shutout.
Macalester hosts a non-conference game against St. Scholastica on Tuesday, Oct. 18, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Macalester Stadium.
