ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team won a non-conference game against the University of Northwestern, 1-0 Monday evening at Macalester Stadium. The Scots, ranked 15th nationally, improve to 9-2-2 on the season, while the Eagles drop to 5-7-1.
Macalester opened the scoring in the 13th minute, when a long throw by
Zach Moore (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) was headed on by first year defender
Max Kent (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Louis Park) to junior forward
Danny Baumann (Waterford, Wis./Muskego) at the back post. Baumann then headed the ball past goalkeeper Turner Main and into the goal for a 1-0 lead.
Less than four minutes before halftime, junior forward
Ionatan Kuperwajs (Redmond, Wash./Woodinville) received a long pass up the middle from junior defender
Colby King (Newcastle, N.H./The Governor's School), beat his defender and blasted a shot into the net for his second goal of the season. The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the second half, with Chris Cleope scoring an unassisted goal in the 70th minute.

Zeke Vainer (Melrose, Mass./Melrose) played the first half, making one save. Sophomore goalkeeper
Colton Wenig (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) was in goal for the second half and also made one save, as the Scots outshot Northwestern, 12-6. Main finished with two saves for the Eagles.
Macalester resumes MIAC play on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at Saint Mary's. The league game begins at 7:00 p.m. in Winona, Minn.
