ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester men's basketball team fell in overtime to visiting Concordia College, 79-74 in a MIAC battle Saturday afternoon in the Leonard Center. The loss is the fifth in a row for the Scots, who are now 3-11 overall and 1-8 in league play. The Cobbers improve to 9-6, 6-4 MIAC.

Wyatt Ferm (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) drained a three-pointer to tie the score at 65-65 with a minute to play. After Concordia's Dylan Alderman converted two free throws with seven seconds left, sophomore guard
Gunnar Goeden (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) hit an 18-foot jumper at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.
In the extra session, the Cobbers took a 74-69 advantage with one minute on the clock. Ferm answered for the Scots with another three, and junior center
Kareem Ismail (Pasadena, Calif./Flintridge Prep) followed a Concordia basket with a jumper to make the score 76-74 Cobbers with 16 seconds remaining. Tom Fraase's free throw made it a three-point game, and a three-point attempt by Gutierrez did not drop, as Macalester lost its fifth straight game.
The Scots led by as many as eight points in the first half before taking a 37-36 lead at the half. Ferm hit three of Macalester's five three-pointers en route to 11 points in the period. The hosts pushed their lead to six before the Cobbers reeled off a 14-3 run to take a 56-51 edge with 12 minutes to play. After the Scots battled back to regain the lead, Concordia scored eight consecutive points to make the score 65-59, setting up Goeden and the Scots' comeback.
Ismail ended up with 21 points and a season-high 14 rebounds to go with three assists and three blocks. Ferm scored 17 points and was 5-of-7 from beyond the arc, while Gutierrez contributed 14 points, five boards and four assists. Goeden registered 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field, and junior guard
Jordan Black-Matthews (Dallas, Tex./Covenant Christian) delivered seven assists. Jordan Bulger tallied 22 points to lead Concordia.
Macalester returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 20 with a MIAC contest at Augsburg College. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Minneapolis, Minn.
