MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Junior center
Kareem Ismail (Pasadena, Calif./Flintridge Prep) tallied 22 points as the Macalester men's basketball team dropped a MIAC game at Augsburg College, 94-70 Wednesday night in Si Melby Hall. The Scots fall to 3-12 overall and 1-9 in league play, while the Auggies improve to 10-5, 5-5 MIAC.

Jordan Black-Matthews (Dallas, Tex./Covenant Christian Academy) and sophomore
Gunnar Goeden (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) helped Macalester cut the deficit to seven, 34-27 with seven minutes on the clock. But the Auggies scored the next seven points and closed out the half with a 19-7 run to take a 53-34 advantage at the break. Both teams shot well in the first half, with Augsburg making 61.3 percent from the field compared to 555 percent for the Scots.
In the second half, Augsburg quickly pushed the lead to 24 with an 8-3 run and never looked back. The Auggies ended up shooting 56.5 percent from the floor for the game, including 9-of-16 from three-point range, while holding Macalester to 40.6 percent from the field in the second half. Augsburg also went to the free throw line 21 times compared to 10 for the Scots.
Ismail was 11-of-17 from the field en route to 22 points, five rebounds and two blocks in 24 minutes. Black-Matthews registered nine points, four boards and two blocks, while first year guard
Michael Gutierrez (Stillwater, Minn./St. Croix Prep Academy) delivered four assists to go with eight points. Collin Olmscheid led five Auggies in double figures with 21 points.
Macalester hosts MIAC foe Saint Mary's College on Saturday, Jan. 23, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the Leonard Center.
