NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Macalester College women's basketball team lost to St. Olaf College, 70-36 in a MIAC contest Wednesday night in the Skoglund Center. The Scots drop to 6-7 overall and 2-5 in conference play with the loss, while the Oles improve to 9-5, 4-3 MIAC.
After trailing early, Macalester battled back in the second quarter. A three-pointer from junior guard
Lauren Clamage (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) and a conventional three-point play by sophomore center
Regan Fruh (Helena, Mont./Helena) tied the score at 18-18 with 6:19 left in the half. St. Olaf closed out the half with an 11-4 run to take a 29-22 advantage into halftime.
The game got away from the Scots in the third quarter, with the Oles outscoring the visitors, 25-5 to lead 54-27 through three quarters. Macalester never recovered, scoring just 14 points in the final two quarters combined.
Fruh registered her fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds to go with two blocks and a steal. Six of her rebounds came on the offensive glass. Clamage and junior forward
Park Masterson (Poway, Calif./Poway) each contributed six points, with Masterson grabbing seven boards. St. Olaf's Betsey Daly led all players with 20 points and 16 rebounds.
Next up for Macalester is a home MIAC game against Concordia College on Saturday, Jan. 16. The game begins at 3:00 p.m. in the Leonard Center.
