ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team defeated the University of St. Catherine, 2-0 in a MIAC contest Wednesday night at Macalester Stadium. The win gives the Scots a 3-2-2 record on the season, including a 2-1-1 mark in conference play. The Wildcats fall to 4-3-1, 1-2 MIAC.
After neither team scored in a competitive first half, Macalester struck early in the second half. Senior midfielder
Lydia Chodosh (Los Angeles, Calif./Culver City) sent a long pass from the left to junior forward
Kara Komoto (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake), who was speeding down the right side. Komoto collected the pass, dribbled past her defender and blasted a shot off the inside of the left post and into the goal in the 48th minute for a 1-0 lead.
With the Wildcats looking for the equalizer, the Scots defended well and also continued to hold an advantage in possession. With a minute remaining, junior midfielder
Rae Hohle (Aurora, Ill./Illinois Math & Science) pounced on a loose ball and drilled a shot just under the crossbar from 25 yards out for an insurance goal.
Sophomore goalkeepers
Rachel Wilson-King (Tucson, Ariz./St. Gregory College Prep) and
Emma Toomer (Leesburg, Va./Loudon County) each played a half and made one save apiece. Danielle Mendez recorded three saves for the Wildcats, who were outshot, 13-5 for the game.
The Scots continue MIAC play with a home game against St. Olaf on Saturday, Oct. 3. The game starts at 3:30 p.m. at Macalester Stadium.
