ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Dylan Kilgour's four-point play with 10 minutes, 39 seconds to play in the game brought Macalester to within seven points of St. Thomas but the Tommies finished the game on a 20-7 run to complete a 68-48 win.
The Scots, who suffered a 51-point loss to St. Thomas in the teams' first meeting this season, would not let the Tommies run away with this game, using a 13-4 run to cut a 16-point lead to seven but, after Kilgour's four-point play, the visitors answered with a dunk by Ryan Saarela and a three-point basket by Taylor Montero to quickly expand the lead back to 12 points and start a 9-0 run.
The balance in scoring displayed by the Tommies, with all five starters scoring at least eight points, overcame the individual scoring exploits of Kilgour, who finished with 15 points, and
Kareem Ismail, who tallied a game-high 20 points.
Grant Shaeffer led the St. Thomas contingent by hitting eight of nine field goal attempts and scoring 18 points. The Tommies shot 50.0 percent from the field compared to 39.6 percent for the Scots, who were just 3-for-18 from three-point range.
Next up for the Scots is a trip north on Snelling Avenue to Arden Hills, where they will face Bethel in a 7 p.m. game, Wednesday before heading into the final week of the 214-15 campaign.
