ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -- Dylan Kilgour hit three free throws with 19.9 seconds remaining in the second half to send the game to overtime but Bethel hit four of five field goals, including a pair of three-point baskets, and hit all six free throw attempts in the final five minutes to post an 81-74 win over Macalester.
The Scots had their outside shooting game working for much of the night, led by a six-for-six shooting performance from
Kyle Bernhard, but it was missing in overtime as
Kareem Ismail and
Bert Yaffe each hit both of their field goal attempts with Yaffe converting a three-pointer.
Bernhard hit a three-pointer to open the game but it was the only time Macalester would lead in the game until Ismail made a pair of layups and a free throw to turn a four-point deficit into a 60-59 lead with three minutes, 32 seconds to play in the second half.
From that point, the only points the Scots would get down the stretch would come from Kilgour at the free throw line. He made a pair with 1:27 to play to tie the game at 62-62 and then was fouled on a three-point field goal attempt, leading to the final points in regulation.
The teams trade three-pointers to open the second half to tie the game for the 10th time, 68-68, with 3:38 to play. Brycen Wotja then hit his second three-point basket of overtime with 3:16 to play to give the Royals the lead for good.
Macalester shot 52.6 percent from the floor on the night, shooting better than 50.0 percent in both halves and overtime, and 40.0 percent from three-point range but the Scots got no bench scoring on the night as all 74 points came from just four players.
Ismail led the way with a game-high 25 points and collected his second consecutive double-double by grabbing 10 rebounds. Kilgour, who played all 45 minutes, and Bernhard, who played 44 minutes, had 24 and 15 points, respectively, and
Bert Yaffe contributed the final 10 points.
Macalester will be off this weekend before returning to play with three games in the final week of the season. That slates begings Monday when the Scots host Saint John's in a 7 p.m. game at the Leonard Center.
