ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Macalester and St. John's exchanged the lead eight times in the game's opening 10 minutes but the Johnnies used a 14-2 run to open up an 11-point lead en route to a 74-58 victory.
Despte taking an 11-point lead, St. John's was by no means clear of the Scots, who closed the first half on an 11-3 run to close to within six points, getting five of those 11 points from
Dylan Kilgour.
Macalester missed an opportunity to close the gap further when it failed to score on the opening possession of the second half and Blake Maslonkowski scored the game's next six points to extend the Johnnies lead to 12.
Maslonkowski and Mitchell Kuck each scored 10 points in the second half to keep the Scots at bay. The hosts were able to go inside with
Kareem Ismail, who scored 14 points in 15 minutes in the second half, but that accounted for nearly half of the team's 29 second-half points.
Ismail finished the game by recording his fifth double-double of the season, posting game highs with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Kyle Berhard added 11 points.
The Scots close out the home portion of their 2014-15 scheduled, Wednesday, when they host Gustavus Adolphus in a 7 p.m. game at the Leonard Center.
