ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Macalester jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the game's first eight minutes but was unable to carry that momentum throughout the game as Hamline came from behind to post a 68-58 victory.
The Scots led by 11 twice, both times on three-point field goals, as
Kyle Bernhard's triple gave them a 13-2 with 12 minutes, 14 seconds to play in the first half, while
Luke Poulsen buried a three from the corner with 4:04 to play in the opening stanza to make the score 27-16.
The Pipers used a 13-3 run to end the half and Austin Johnson's three-pointer sent the game into the intermission with Macalester holding a 30-29 lead.
Hamline continued that run into the second half and took the lead when Dylan See-Rockers scored 37 seconds into the half, the only lead change of the game, as the Pipers opened the final frame with an 18-3 run to take their largest lead of the game at 47-33.
Kareem Ismail led the Scots with 14 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. In the second half, in which he played all 20 minutes, he scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Kyle Bernhard added 10 points for Macalester while
Bert Yaffe and
Luke Poulsen each chipped in with nine points, a career high for Poulsen.
Next up for the Scots is a Monday meeting at home with St. Thomas. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m. at the Leonard Center.
