ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Augsburg outscored Macalester, 30-10, in the paint and two of the Scots post players battled four trouble and eventually fouled out in the Auggies 56-45 win at the Leonard Center.

Kareem Ismail was limited to just 20 minutes and fellow post player
Griffin Glatt saw just 15 minutes of action due to foul trouble and Augsburg went to the free throw line 15 more times than it host, gaining a nine-point advantage via free throws.
Both teams shot well below their usual averages as the Auggies connected on just 38.3 percent of its field-goal attempts, including a 1-for-8 performance outside the three-point arc. The Scots hit on just 30.0 percent of its shots from the floor while going 5-for-18 (27.8 percent) from three-point range.
After
Dylan Kilgour's three-point basket, to open the game, gave Macalester an early lead, Augsrug responded with an 8-0 run and held the leadfor the next 12 minutes.
The Scots tied the game for the first time when
Kyle Bernhard hit a three-point with 4:17 to play in the oppening half but the Auggies scored the final five points of the opening 20 minutes, taking a 25-20 lead into halftime and they led throughout the second half.
Macalester made a valiant comeback bid after trailing by 17 with 7:07 to play in the game at 47-30. The Scots closed to within seven, using a 13-3 run over the next five minutes with
Jordan Black keying the run at the end by forcing a turnover, converting a three-point play and, on the hosts next possession, scoring on a driving layup
Forced to foul in the game's final 90 seconds, the Scots could do little as the Auggies hit six of their eight free throws, with Parker Hines going 4-for-4 in the final 36 seconds to seal the win.
Macalester got 41 of its 45 points from four players. Glatt scored 11 in just 15 minutes while Black came off the bench to play a season-high 31 minutes while scoring 10 points.Kilgour and Bernhard, who both played 35 minutes, also added 10 points apiece while sharing the team lead in rebounds with six each.
The Scots will host Hamline, Saturday, in a 3 p.m. matinee on Winter Sports Day. Macalester will host an alumni game in the morning and honor those alumni in halftime ceremonies. It will also be Senior Day as the Scots pay homage to their two seniors --
Hans Erickson and
Bert Yaffe.
