WINONA, Minn. – After a late first half comeback, Macalester entered the half trailing St. Mary's University by just three points (28-31). A hot-shooting Cardinals team couldn't be contained in the final 20 minutes as they sailed to a 68-46 victory.
Down by 12 with just over three minutes to play in the first half,
Vivi Gregorich knocked down a shot from beyond the arc to cut the lead to nine (29-20). With the momentum rolling, senior
Annie Drabot drained a three of her own and Gregorich followed up with an and-one play to close the scoring gap to three.
The Scots hung with the Cardinals to start the second half, but couldn't put the ball in the hoop consistently. St. Mary's shot 46% from the field in the final 20 minutes; the Scots shot 23%.
Macalester was led in scoring by senior,
Annie Drabot who left a significant mark on the women's basketball program as she rounded out her career with a 10-point, five-rebound performance to lead the Scots.
Regan Fruh and
Erin Murray each added eight points.
Katelyn Kack pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and
Grace Dickman dished out a team-high five assists.
Emma Schaefer and Shelby Auseth who each finished with 12 points led St. Mary's.
Macalester finishes the 2014-15 season with a 3-21 overall record, 0-17 in the MIAC. St. Mary's improves to 16-8 overall and 10-7 in the MIAC as they head into the conference tournament.
