Women's Basketball: Macalester Falls to #6 St. Thomas, 76-50

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's basketball team hosted #6 ranked St. Thomas in MIAC Wednesday night action. The Tommies jumped out to a strong start in both halves to secure a 76-50 final victory.
 
Macalester drops to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the MIAC. St. Thomas improves to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in conference action.
 
The Tommies capitalized on a 23 to 7 first quarter scoring margin to set the tone. Macalester battled back in the second, outscoring St. Thomas 16-11 and entered the half trailing by just 11. The Tommies put together another 23 to 7 scoring advantage in the third to break away for good.
 
Senior Erin Murray (Sparta, Wis. / Sparta) led Macalester offensively. Murray shot four of six from the field and knocked down three of four attempts from the line to finish with 11 points.  
 
Junior Park Masterson (Poway, Calif. / Poway) pulled down a team-best six rebounds.
 
Sophomore G.G. Gunther (San Francisco, Calif. / Lowell) and first year Katie Grahn (Woodland, Calif. / Davis Senior H.S.) added productive minutes off the bench for the Scots. Gunther connected on two shots from beyond the arc and a layup to finish with eight points. Grahn added six points on two of three shooting.
 
Saint Thomas was led in scoring by Gabby Zehrer who made all five three-point attempts and finished with 16 points.
 
Macalester will return to action on Friday, December 11 as they host Gustavus Adolphus College at the Leonard Center. Tipoff is slated for 5:45 p.m. and will be followed by the men's game at 7:45.
