ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's basketball team hosted #6 ranked St. Thomas in MIAC Wednesday night action. The Tommies jumped out to a strong start in both halves to secure a 76-50 final victory.

Macalester drops to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the MIAC. St. Thomas improves to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in conference action.

The Tommies capitalized on a 23 to 7 first quarter scoring margin to set the tone. Macalester battled back in the second, outscoring St. Thomas 16-11 and entered the half trailing by just 11. The Tommies put together another 23 to 7 scoring advantage in the third to break away for good.

Erin Murray (Sparta, Wis. / Sparta) led Macalester offensively. Murray shot four of six from the field and knocked down three of four attempts from the line to finish with 11 points. Â

Park Masterson (Poway, Calif. / Poway) pulled down a team-best six rebounds.

G.G. Gunther (San Francisco, Calif. / Lowell) and first year
Katie Grahn (Woodland, Calif. / Davis Senior H.S.) added productive minutes off the bench for the Scots. Gunther connected on two shots from beyond the arc and a layup to finish with eight points. Grahn added six points on two of three shooting.

Saint Thomas was led in scoring by Gabby Zehrer who made all five three-point attempts and finished with 16 points.

Macalester will return to action on Friday, December 11 as they host Gustavus Adolphus College at the Leonard Center. Tipoff is slated for 5:45 p.m. and will be followed by the men's game at 7:45.
