ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's basketball team hosted Grinnell College in a Saturday afternoon contest at the Leonard Center. After trailing by two at the half, the Scots dominated the final 20 minutes to secure a 69-52 win and advance to 2-1 on the season.
Junior
Lauren Clamage (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest Academy) jump-started the Scots on offense, scoring 18 points in the first two quarters on seven of nine shooting from the field. Clamage finished with a team-high 24 points on the night and pulled down eight rebounds.
Inside players
Park Masterson (Poway, Calif. / Poway) and
Regan Fruh (Helena, Mont. / Helena) displayed dominance in the paint. Masterson added another double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Fruh added 12 points and nine rebounds.
Senior guard
Erin Murray (Sparta, Wis. / Sparta) dished out seven assists (and committed just one turnover). Murray scored eight points and finished with six rebounds. Sophomore
Leah Gray (San Rafael, Calif. / Branson School) added seven points, five rebounds, and five blocks.
The Scots shot 43% from the field in the game and held Grinnell to just a 25% FGA. Grinnell was led by Alissa Hirsh with 20 points.
Macalester will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 24 as they travel down Snelling to compete at the University of Northwestern. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
